Hi, I’m Neil and I teach Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga and Pilates.
Vinyasa yoga involves moving smoothly from pose to pose, linking the breath to the movement as you do so. It encompasses both physical yoga (poses, asanas, stretching etc) and mind yoga (breathing techniques and meditation) combining the two to help build strength, keep your muscles and joints healthy, and to enable you to calm your mind and help improve your overall wellbeing.
Yin yoga is a slower paced style of yoga that targets the white, connective tissues (eg ligaments, bones and fascia) of the body rather than the muscles. By holding the poses for longer (usually a few minutes) gentle stress is applied to the connective tissue which helps to keep the joints healthy and mobile. Yin yoga is the perfect complement to Vinyasa yoga (which is Yang).
Pilates is a system of exercises designed to improve strength and flexibility. Core strength is one of the key elements; improving your core strength helps to improve posture, which can help improve cardiac and respiratory functions, minimise the occurrence of general aches and pains and generally make you feel better in yourself.
Yoga and Pilates complement each other perfectly and I’m always happy to combine the two disciplines into one class.
I’m currently teaching at various local gyms and centres around the Colchester area. I’m just as happy teaching a 1-to-1, or 1-to-2 class as a class of 20.
